While safety is serious, Playing It Safe makes awareness fun.

Each year, children and their families learn about avoiding hazards at our annual family safety fair, co-sponsored with Safe KidsChampaign County. This summer, more than 1,500 people attended the event at the Champaign County Fairgrounds.

Children learned about fire safety from Sparky the Fire Dog and water safety from Hans & Swampy. Families also had the opportunity explore an ambulance, crime scene unit, and other rescue vehicles and tools.

Activities and Events

One of the most popular activities was CHIP, the Child Identification Program, offered by the Freemasons of Illinois. The program offered a complete child identification package that included a color photo, recorded video interview, fingerprints, and DNA sample.
